Scathing criticism of the role politics played in our COVID-19 response. A review co-authored by Emeritus Professor Des Gorman and published by The New Zealand Initiative, says while they don't disagree with the overall strategy or the public health measures, the governing left a lot to be desired. He says we need a proper pandemic plan agreed by all political parties, which looks at creating a dedicated governance group like we use for ACC, the Reserve Bank or the Super Fund.
"But then when we get on to how it's managed, we need to actually use the expertise available to us, whether it's publicly employed or privately employed."
