A new report from The New Zealand Initiative is hitting out at the politicisation of our COVID-19 pandemic management.
Co-author Emeritus Professor Des Gorman says that while they couldn't disagree with the overall strategy or the public health measures, the way it was governed left a lot to be desired. He says by politicising it, we started to engage in hubris, false pride and excessive congratulatory behaviour.
"The trouble with being the best in show and the envy of the world is that it's very hard then to recognise what you're doing is wrong, not good enough, and actually to adapt and to move on to better ways of doing things.
